STOP PRESS: Performance date set for Saturday 17th December.
We’re looking for singers and local choirs to take part in a special performance of Handel’s Messiah this December. It’s an exciting opportunity to perform one of the greatest choral works in the repertoire and a special event in which to participate during Advent.
The plan is being put together by American music professor and classical tenor Dr David Sadlier, who sang in Troon Old earlier this summer, when the seeds of this idea were sown. He is bringing an international cast of professional operatic singers to sing the solo parts, and St Anne’s Camerata string orchestra from Oxford – all we have to add is the choir!
The performance is planned for Saturday December 17th with rehearsals on the preceding 3 days (times TBA). This will be a performance of the “Christmas” portion of the Messiah, plus the famed Hallelujah Chorus.
Troon Old Parish Church has a superb acoustic for singing, and can accommodate the large audience we’re hoping to attract to the performance.
While December is still a few months away, planning for an event like this takes quite some time and we need to know final numbers of interested choristers as soon as possible. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Rev David Prentice-Hyers on 01292 313520, or by email.
