Re-Opening Update 20 September 2020

In September we’re continuing to publish a weekly ‘traffic light’ system to help you decide which service of worship you’d prefer to attend at Troon Old.

We currently have two short reflective services in our church sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 9:15am and 10:30am, each limited by law to a maximum of 50 people.  That gives us lots of space for full social distancing!  These two services offer an in-person alternative to our online worship, which continues on our website and our Facebook page, and which is also available via our Dial-a-Podcast service.

On Sunday 20 September 2020 we rated the 9:15am in-person service as green – “plenty of space”, and the 10:30am in-person service as amber – “space for more”.  Online worship always has plenty of space!

 


Troon Old Parish Church – COVID-19 Rules on Reopening

Phase 3 of Scottish Government Route Map – Places of worship allowed to open for services under physical distancing rules and hygiene safeguards.

  1. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND CHURCH IF YOU OR ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS: DRY COUGH; FEVER; LOSS OF TASTE or SMELL; SHORTNESS OF BREATH.
  2. Please carefully consider the additional risk to your health and wellbeing if you are within the higher risk categories as defined by current government guidance.
  3. Church will be open for services of reflection on Sundays from 8:45 and 10:00am, the services will commence at 9:15 and 10:30 respectively and last around 20 minutes.  Any change to opening time(s) will be published as things evolve.
  4. Please follow government guidance on travel.
  5. Only the church sanctuary will be open – no general access to toilets, kitchen, halls, etc.  Corridor doors will be closed and not in use other than for emergency purposes.
  6. Entrance is via Academy Street door only.  A One-way system will be operated to aid physical distancing.  Disabled access can be made available if required.  Exiting the Church through the Academy Street Door and Ayr Street door.  Stewards will be there to help with access/exit.
  7. Social distance markings are installed in church – please remain 2m apart.
  8. ‘Sit here’ signage placed in pews – showing limitations of seating in pews and maintenance of 2m social distance (some seats may have restricted view depending on the mix of individuals and same household groups attending).  Maximum capacity – including minister and stewards – is capped at 50 people by the Scottish Government.  Stewards will monitor and help with this.

  9. A record of attendees has to be kept (trace & protect).  You are asked to bring a note of name and phone number and leave in box on entry.  If you don’t have this, you’ll be asked to write it and leave on the way out.
  10. Stewards will be positioned at entrance/exit and to help with seating and safety.  Please follow their guidance.  People will not be able to sit in their ‘usual’ seats.
  11. Everyone is to maintain good hand hygiene practices – apply hand sanitiser on entry to and exit from the church.  Supplies will be available at entry and exit doors.
  12. Face coverings must be worn when inside the church.  If a face covering is not used for medical or other reasons, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  13. The church premises were deep cleaned by an external cleaning company in July 2020.  Enhanced cleaning of all contact areas following each service will be done in line with Health Protection Scotland guidance.
  14. To avoid cross-contamination and aid cleaning, Bibles, hymn books and cushions have been removed from the pews.  Bring your own Bible (and/or cushion!) if you wish, then take it home.
  15. Collection plates will be available inside the vestibule for envelope collection or cash donations.

These rules are required to meet the conditions of the Scottish Government and Church of Scotland for safe reopening of premises.  You are asked to comply to help keep yourself and others safe – thank you.
